Best practice content writing processes, honed through experience.

Working with me

Step One:

If you're looking for a freelance content writer – great! First, we can arrange a time to speak by phone/video chat or simply exchange emails – whatever works for you to ensure you feel I'm the right person for your content writing, content management or marketing job. Get in touch, tell me about your business and I'll send you some relevant examples of my work and show you where and how I can add value.

If you like what you see, you can go ahead and engage me for your project.

Step Two:

I'll ask you a series of questions to understand exactly what it is you're looking for and to understand the project scope, whether that's a simple copywriting project, a more in-depth writing job or a marketing or editing job.

We'll discuss tone, key messages, the objective of the project, the details such as your SEO objectives – if you use style guides or tone of voice materials, I'll ask you to share those with me.

Step Three:

I'll come back for a price for your job, and we'll agree on a deadline for delivery.

If you'd like me to write a sample piece first (for a fee), then I can do this. Otherwise, we can agree on an initial first project to ensure that you're fully satisfied with the process and how we work together, or we can dive right in – it's up to you!

If we haven't worked together before, I'll request a 50% up-front payment for the project. I accept payments via bank transfer or we can arrange a project via my Upwork profile, where funds are deposited by you in advance, and released to me on successful completion of your project.

Step Four:

When you are happy to proceed with your content writing project, I will then ask any additional questions I have, conduct any necessary research and produce the work by our agreed deadline. I mostly work in MS Word or Google Docs, but can work in a different programme if it suits you better. If you'd like me to upload directly to a content management system, I can do that for a small additional charge.

After that first draft has been sent back to you for review, I like to work to a maximum of two revisions/edits, to be completed within an agreed date. I can work to shorter deadlines if necessary, but this may incur an additional fee.

All good? We'll review the project and discuss any others you have coming up, or areas of your marketing communications where you feel I might be able to help.
